Oh the wonders or recycling. I believe in saving our Earth and am always trying to save a bit of
money. I used to work full time for a
major retail company but am now on disabili
ty after having my lower leg
amputated. Ironically I now have more time for my hobbies, but significantly
less money. So, as the saying goes, necessity is the mother of all
invention. Needing tidy storage for
small items I really love those compartmentalized organizer boxes available almost
everywhere, but I really didn’t like the price tag attached to them. I had an
"Aha" moment one day when changing the scented wax cube for the
warmer. I thought to myself "now
these are pretty nifty" and started reusing them for stowing small items. The wax cubes are available from any large box store and most people just throw these little treasures into the trash. Its always a good day when you can save both the planet and your wallet! In this example I am sorting beads, but these boxes can also be great for jewelry, especially when traveling, buttons...the options are endless.
As with all things there are some
advantages and disadvantages of reusing these containers a few of which
include:
Pros
- Easily cleaned
- Stores flat, hung or on its side
- Clear packaging
- Consistently sized for stacking/storing
- Lid is attached and fits securely
Cons
- Tiny items will move freely throughout the container
- A piece of foam core board helps with this problem
- You can go completely insane trying to organize everything
- You can actually get too organized
- Keep it simple
I am sure I'll add to these lists as I encounter more examples. If you have any of your own, leave me a comment and I'll included them in future updates. Don't spend all your play time sorting; as always, always have fun!
