Wild Scarves

Wild Scarves Wednesday, January 31, 2018 5:48 PM Wild Scarf Here in Oklahoma the winter winds can really blow a cold chill right down your spine; that is unless you have one of these fantasticly wild scarves.  I am a thrift store junkie, but I pass down most of my purchases in one way or another.  One hot summer day I got a whole bag of scarves for $1. Some were nabbed up by the kids right away, but there were a few that remained in the basket.  The dust bunnies in my brain finally got to hopping and I, with the help of Miss Erica (my middle granddaughter who shares my questionable fashion sense), whipped up her wild scarf.   This scarf was a tiger print which Erica loves but any color or print can be used. I found a complimentary small stuffed animal, similar to "Beanie Babies" but in this case also a thrift store find. Erica wanted to have her animal have jewelry so I first sewed on some rhinestone ribbon which I get at Dollar Tree . We then simpl...

Scented Wax Packages

Scented Wax Packages Tuesday, November 07, 2017 4:47 PM   Poorganization       Oh the wonders or recycling.  I believe in saving our Earth and am always trying to save a bit of money.  I used to work full time for a major retail company but am now on disabili ty after having my lower leg amputated. Ironically I now have more time for my hobbies, but significantly less money. So, as the saying goes, necessity is the mother of all invention.  Needing tidy storage for small items I really love those compartmentalized organizer boxes available almost everywhere, but I really didn’t like the price tag attached to them. I had an "Aha" moment one day when changing the scented wax cube for the warmer.  I thought to myself "now these are pretty nifty" and started reusing them for stowing small items.  The wax cubes are available from any large box store and most people just throw these little treasures into the trash.  Its always a g...

Dollar Tree Pill Organizers

Dollar Tree Pill Organizers   One of the many things I try to get better at is organizing.  I also love to find the least inexpensive options I can. I am a firm believer in trash to treasure and in finding alternative uses things I already own.  Its my many small steps to making a smaller footprint (should be even easier for me as I only have one foot LOL) and doing my part in preserving our environment and Earth. This one of my favorite POORGANIZATION tricks. Cheap, easy, and effective all rolled into one.      When I was a teenager--ya, that was a while ago, but I still remember most of it--my Grandpa made all of us girls a jewelry box for Christmas. It was and still is one of my most important treasures.  It is made of beautiful cedar with a flip up lid and two divided pull-out drawers. The top and first drawer are lined with gem toned blue cloth. Every time I look at it I am comforted with happy memories of Sundays at the ranch ...

The Gifting Tree

The Gifting Tree Tuesday, November 07, 2017      Yup, it is the Holiday season already. I always think the years keep getting shorter, but now I'm pretty sure it's just that I keep getting older.  So lets not dally and cut to the chase.      I strive to find personal gifts for family and friends. I believe less really can be more and that a single meaningful gift is worth much more than multiple generic, one-size-fits-all purchases. Gifts from heart spread love.      Thoughtful gifts don’t have to be expensive, but they do need planning. I listen when people I love talk. I pay attention to their hobbies and interests and I plan accordingly. Clearance shopping is only a good sale if you get stuff you will actually use. Keeping that in mind, I pick up items year round (yes, I am one of those people).      In this example my best friend is a fishing enthusiast and a Bah Humbugger at Christmas....
